Lucy Staples
I was born and raised in Yellowknife. I remember when people would wear new mukluks, gloves, moccasins, stroud jackets for the Christmas season.
My mother taught me to sew when I was 10 years old. She told me that one day I would have a family of my own and that I needed to learn how to sew for them. I have never forgotten her words.
I sew mainly small crafts like card holders, beaded eye glass cases and other crafts.I use beads, embroidery yarn, embroidery threads. I am glad that more women are sewing traditional crafts, it keeps our culture alive.
