Emily Smits is a painter, illustrator, designer, builder, and dreamer. Born in 1981 some of her earliest memories are of creating art as a refuge and attempt at understanding the world around her. With themes of nature, death, dreams and strange imaginings she strives to find beauty in the unusual.
Emily enjoys working with all mediums including oil, acrylic, glass, wood, metal, found and often discarded and broken objects which she enjoys rebuilding and imagining into something new and useful again.
Her goal is to push herself further to better express what she cannot in words and produce art that comforts the troubled, unsettles the comfortable, and continue to build on a body of work that reflects issues of environmental decay, dreams, personal struggle, and hope.
