Biographie de l'artiste:

I am a traditional artist born and raised in Inuvik, NT currently living in Aklavik. I was raised by amazing Artist and my passion for art started at a young age, with painting and charcoal designs. I attended Emily Carr University shortly after High school but decided to pursue Tourism as a career choice. In the summer of 2016 I decided to ask my God- Mother to teach me how to Traditionally Embroider before heading to the camp for 10 days. I returned from camp with 5 finished embroidered uppers and a love for Embroidery.

I began to spend more time with my Nanuk (Grand Mother), Mother and Family members learning how to sew traditionally, the art of putting my work together. There were many mistakes and learning opportunities but I felt grateful to be learning from such strong Artist.

In the past few years, I've started to branch out from Embroidery to Beading trying many different traditional styles and designs. Though I continue to make many shoes, parky covers and mitts, my current style is focused on beaded and embroidered earrings. My best known design includes Birch Bark I've collected from various areas of the Mackenzie Delta to create the "MD Birch Bark Earrings", a combination of Embroidery or Beaded designs on the birch bark with a selected fur on the back.
