Artist Story

Mary Louise was born on the Rabbit Skin River in the Northwest Territories. From a young age, she began creating traditional arts, starting as soon as she was able to thread a needle. Alongside her family, she practiced tanning hides, beading, and sewing, developing strong skills rooted in cultural knowledge.

Her inspiration came from the natural beauty around her, particularly the northern wildflowers that surrounded her home. Through her work, she reflected both her environment and her deep connection to tradition.

Mary Louise’s creations stand as a testament to her dedication, creativity, and the cultural teachings she carried forward. Her work continues to be remembered and appreciated.
