Artist Story

Lindsay’s passion for music began in his formative years in New Zealand in the 1950s, when he first heard early rock and roll on the AM radio. As a young boy, he felt a strong need to express himself, often singing along as best he could. Around the age of 15, he purchased his first guitar, taught himself a few chords, and quickly became deeply connected to music.

After moving to Canada and settling in Mayo, Yukon, his interest in music continued to grow. During long winter evenings, he took part in sing-alongs, where he further developed his skills and began learning how to structure songs by combining lyrics and melody.

His years in the North—beginning in 1973 and continuing after his move to the Northwest Territories in 1977—provided him with a wealth of life experiences that inspired his songwriting. He often reflected on both his northern life and his roots, expressing these connections through music. He understood the importance of expressing identity and experience, whether through visual art or, in his case, through musical storytelling.

Lindsay’s music was rooted in the blues 1-4-5 progression of early rock and roll, a structure he embraced for its emotional depth and relatability. Inspiration came to him in everyday moments, as he observed and connected with the world around him. Through careful listening and reflection, he transformed these experiences into songs.

Over the years, he recorded three albums, continuing to explore and express the human experience through his music. His work stands as a reflection of his creativity, his life journey, and his enduring commitment to storytelling through song.
