Artist Bio
I first learned to crochet as a child, then moved on to sewing, and learned to knit while I was attending college. I like to call myself a “fibre artist” as I enjoy working with many different techniques and with many forms of fibre – yarn, fabric, unspun wool. I graduated in 1984 from the Design Arts - Weaving & Textiles III program at Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario. I have belonged to weaving guilds in BC, Alberta, and New Brunswick. I am a member of the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts. While living in New Brunswick, I worked as a home-production weaver for Loomcrofter's Studio, Gagetown, mainly weaving tartan placemats. While I make mostly functional pieces, like rugs, tea towels, or mittens, I like to them to the next level by using unusual colour combinations or materials. Even after all these years of weaving, I'm still fascinated watching my weaving grow as I work at my loom. My loom herd currently consists of a 45” wide four-shaft counterbalance loom, a 24” wide four-shaft jack table loom, and an inkle loom. I sell my work throughout the year at various venues in Hay River – during the summer at the Fisherman’s Wharf Saturday market, and at craft sales during other times of the year.
