Artist Bio
Born in southern Ontario, I moved to Inuvik in 1996 and lived there until moving south to Yellowknife in 2013, where I currently live with my family.
My maternal grandmother was Cree, her family from Lac La Biche, Lac St. Anne and Ft McMurray, where my mother was born.
As a little girl I remember watching my grandmother work with leather making embroidered Alaska dancing mukluks, and fringed leather vests with cut out flower patterns showing off red velvet behind the cutouts. While I always have been involved in crafts of some sort, I have recently learned how to bead and make seal skin mitts, moccasins and beaded card holders.
Beading is an incredible tranquil and peaceful pastime, I believe because my ancestors are speaking to me through my beading.
