Artist Bio

Making things with clay has been a big part of my life for over 30 years.  The possibilities still seem endless.  An expression I once heard that sums it all up for me is ‘head in the clouds, feet on the ground’. I love the usefulness of pots, and the ideas they can bring to the table.  Ideas about slow and fast transformations in the world around me - rock formations, lakes, ice and snow, lichen, traffic, walking and buildings - all find their way into my pots.

Everyday experience guides what I make, but many years of learning the craft allows me to make the pots I want to make. Largely self taught, I still draw on lessons learned from ceramics courses while I was studying fine arts at the University of Victoria, a short residency at Medalta, and weekend workshops organized by the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts with visitng Canadian potters (Les Manning, Tony Clennell, Katrina Chaytor, Connie Pike . . . . . ).
