Artist Story

Im am a proud Shuhtaotine woman reclaiming her Indigenous name, rights, and culture one bead at a time. I’m from Tulita, NT but living in Yellowknife to further my studies. I am a mother of five, a wife, and an ECE worker. I have been beading for over 15 years now.
My mother first taught me to make simple beaded fringe earrings, then watching her and my ehtsu while they worked on their various projects gave me the motivation to learn. I am so grateful I’m my ehtsu Jane’s keeper. I am who I am because she believed in me!
I love to bead, make moccasins, earrings, hats, grad stolls, vests, baby straps, and everything in between. It has always given me great comfort when bringing my creativity to light. I enjoy challenging myself with each creation I make.

Most of my items are made with home tanned moosehide or caribou hide that was traditionally made and gifted by Senó Bernette. All of my items are usually florals or of Bear Rock mountain as they both remind me of my home community. Mahsi for this amazing opportunity to share everything I’ve been taught from the generations before me.
