Artist Bio
My name is Diane Andre and I am a Dene artist from Deline. I have been sewing since I was in my 20's and love to sew for family and friends. I have sewn alot of different things particularly with beads and hide. My sewing is authentic and unique in the north as we have skills passed onto us from elders which we use today. All our elders have passed on so I feel so privileged to have the honor of using their skills in my everyday sewing.
I have been taught by my grand mother Elizabeth Kodakin and my mother, Irene Kodakin and by other elders. This traditional practice is passed down to my daughter, Hilary Andre. I believe its important to keep the traditional strong and teach others.
When I sew projects, I love it so much that I get lost in it. This intensity brings me to a different level of being creative in using traditional material & methods and using new innovative ways to bring the beauty in the product.
I hope to continue on my passion for sewing and to still be able to learn from others
