Artist Bio

My name is Nadine MacDonald. I am a Metis woman born and raised in Fort Smith, NT. My father, Ian MacDonald was 9th generation Scottish settler from PEI. My mother, Marie MacDonald, was born to Mary and Ernest Villebrun. Mary was a nurse and midwife who immigrated from England, and Ernest was a Dene-Metis man with roots in Thebacha and Athebasca.

I started to beadwork and tufting in late 2023 from a variety of friends, family, and community members. Picking up tricks and tips along the way.

Beading has become much more than a craft or pastime for me. It’s a connection to my family and it truly is medicine. It helps ground me after long days of working and revitalizes me so I can move forwards in a good way.

To those who support me, a huge Mahsi Cho. It means the world to me.
